Unevenness in a rotating gear will add vibration wherever the heavy part of the gear is at when it’s spinning. Compared to similar gears in the market, the fan blades are spread out evenly (no heavy side). Symmetrical Gear that produces very little vibration as the inertia of the gear is distributed evenly. This lessens the load on the aging motor in spinning the gear, increasing its life. Lighter yet sturdy gear with the spoke design compared to the original. Spokes that double as Fan blades to blow some air on the motor and cool the chamber. The following improvements are incorporated to the design of the new gear: Knowing that the reason for the gear breaking over time is its close proximity to the drive motor and its exposure to constant heat, I decided to improve upon the original gear design.

Having recently purchased a 3D Printer and looking for a meaningful project, I set out to reverse engineer the broken gear. In 2013, the plastic gear in my kids’ Model 19 Pencil Sharpener broke in half and lost some of its teeth. This item is a replacement gear for a Hunt Boston Model 18 or 19 Electric Pencil Sharpener.
